Our local John Lewis in Welwyn Garden City has been donating splendid fabrics to our project for the last 18 months. More recently we were invited to apply for funding from the John Lewis Foundation to support any projects we were interested in developing.
Recover’s volunteer fundraiser Elena did an outstanding job successfully securing a generous amount of funding to develop our ‘Fabric Of Life’ project.
The project is to further develop our upholstery skills enabling more of the Team to use these skills in getting employment in the future.
Interestingly the money we received from the John Lewis Foundation is from the 5p charge on their carrier bags – brilliant concept & I expect answers many peoples queries about what happens to the money now charged for carrier bags.
Not only do we now have the funding to develop upholstery skills we also have an amazing selection of ‘high end’ designer fabrics to utilize – all from our friends at John Lewis.
These are a few of the upholstery projects we have already completed using the fabric donations:
A lush velvet atomic style cocktail / boudoir chair…
Bow fronted antique wing back armchair – before & after…
Designers Guild blue velvet & colourful contrast custom buttoned back boudoir chair…
Vintage up-cycled Parker Knoll wing back armchair, ‘Christian LaCroix’ fabrics & custom deep buttoned back…
For the more traditionalists amongst you, an Ercol Patchwork rocking chair…
Jon R. one of our Team that has now moved on to employment has kindly agreed to visit weekly to produce a time lapse video of us all working on a large antique wing back armchair – from start to finish. We are looking forward to showing you this in a few months time.
We are getting nice & busy with regular visits Monday- Friday & also first Sunday openings of each month. Looking forward to welcoming you this Sunday June 5th, 10am – 4pm.
